Chicago, Ill --- The Mount Mary University Blue Angels headed down to Chicago, Ill, to play in a non-conference game against the Moody Bible University Archers. The Blue Angels dropped set one but that did not stop the Blue Angels. They found themselves back in the win column with a 3-1 win against the Archers. 

Highlights From The Box Score:  

• Leading in the kills category was Gabby Saucedo Salas (Flagstaff, Ariz.) and Andriana White (Erin, Tenn.) with 13 and 12 kills, respectively.   

• Assisting her offense 20 times was Ava Fincher (Owensboro, Ky.)  

• Picking up 16 digs in the match was Abigail Manthey (Mukwonago, Wis.)  

• Manthey also served up four aces.   

A Look Inside The Win:  

The Blue Angels started set one down three points before White scored her first kill of the night. The Archers went on a four-point scoring run before Saucedo Salas joined the party. The Archers had control of the Blue Angels for the entirety of set one, holding the lead the entire set. The Blue Angels went on a four-point run attempting to close the gap, but the Archers took set one, 25-20.   

Similar to set one, the Archers scored the first three points of the set. A kill by Lilly Severson (Cottage Grove, Wis.) switched things around for Mount Mary. The Archers held the lead of set two until the Blue Angels tied things up with a Manthey service ace. Points were exchanged back and forth all the way until 20-20. Another Manthey service ace put the Blue Angels up 22-20. White secured the set win from her setter, Fincher, to tie up the match with a 25-23 win.  

With the match tied 1-1, the Blue Angels flipped a switch and found their dominating mindset. They started the set going on a six-point scoring run with kills from Rosalinda Palacios (Chicago, Ill.) and Saucedo Salas. The Archers could not find their groove as the Blue Angels led 13-7. The Blue Angels held the Archers to seven points while they scored five in a row, 18-7. The Archers took a timeout to talk things over, but that did not distract the Blue Angels. Saucedo Salas and Palacios ended the set with powerful force, 25-11.  

Set four began similarly to set three. The Blue Angels scored three in a row and then followed up by scoring four more to force the Archers to take a timeout, 9-4. The Archers attempted to come back as they had a three-point scoring run, but that did not shift the Blue Angels. Saucedo Salas added to her kill total by adding in another kill, while Palacios tallied a service ace, 18-10. The Archers went on to score a few points, bringing the score to 20-14. Rachel Champion (Tallahassee, Fla.) fed Saucedo Salas and White, bringing the Blue Angels two points away from victory, 23-14. The Archers did not let the Blue Angels take the set that easily as they scored four, 23-18. Back-to-back kills by White secured Mount Mary the set four win and match win, 3-1.   

The Blue Angels will be finishing their three-game road stand tomorrow, Thursday, September 18th.
