Guyette Leads Blue Angels
AD3I Player of the Week finishes in 40th out of 117 runners.
WEST ALLIS, Wis. – In a race with the state's top programs, the Blue Angels finished 12th today in a 12 team race. The team category was taken by Beloit College, and the race's top time went to Julie Favorite from Wisconsin Lutheran College finishing at 23:09.5.
In another solid performance for last week's Association of Division III Independents "Player of the Week", Natalie Guyette (So./Shiocton, Wis.) finished the six kilometer race in 40th place and a 26:37.2 time. Hayley Hove was right behind Guyette finishing in 49th place and finishing at 27:23.9. A few paces later, Danielle Sherrer finished at 27:59.4.
The remaining Blue Angels finished minutes after, Lily Lopez (Fr./Milwaukee, Wis.) 32:22.1, Denise Hernandez at 35:41.6, Zahra Said with a 38:33.0 time, and Grace Rock finished at 40:36.4.
It has been a year of cutting times, and self-improvement for the Blue Angels. Guyette has been chopping time off since race one, and it showed off today with a high 40th place finish out of 12 fully loaded teams. With the fourth and fifth place finishers a full five minutes behind the pack, it makes the team score hard to cut down.
The bright side is that the team has the commitment necessary to stick together and keeps those times shrinking. With the cold air approaching, and the fall running concluding, the Blue Angels will have an uphill battle to try to close out the final meet with a high finish. From top to bottom, the Blue Angels cross country team has been improving since day one. The MMU fans hope to see that trend continue.
The team will have plenty of time to work on closing the gap between third and fourth place, and hopefully can have a break out performance for next month's regional. Following today's race, the Blue Angels will prepare for the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional in Winneconne, Wis. The all regional race will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday Nov. 15th.
