Milwaukee, WI- As they began the match with only 12 available players, the Mount Mary University soccer team knew they were in for a tough task when they hosted Blackburn College on Thursday. Due to in match injuries, MMU would finish the contest with ten players and fell to Blackburn by a final score of 2-0.
Overcoming tall odds, the Blue Angels competed extremely hard and stayed close all the way through the match. Consistent offensive pressure was applied by Mamah Konneh and Talina Avila, with many near chances almost finding the back of the net. Brianna Brown had a fine day as the Blue Angel goalkeeper, recording 15 saves as she was under constant duress due to 33 Blackburn shots.
The Blue Angels (0-3) will now have nearly a week off before their next contest and the opportunity to return to full strength. They will once again be at home on Wednesday, September 17th at 4 pm. Mount Mary will host Indiana University South Bend, the match will mark the first ever conference match for the Blue Angels as members of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
