MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary soccer team showed great improvement in its Sunday morning matchup against Lawrence University. Despite a 5-0 losing decision, the Blue Angels put forth a much stronger showing—particularly in the middle third—as this young MMU squad continues to grow as a unit.
Freshman goalkeeper Brianna Brown (San Diego, Calif./Herbert Hoover) returned Sunday, making an immediate impact in the box with seven saves. She was assisted by the defensive platoon of Amanda Antonio (Racine, Wis./William Horlick), Angie Gomez (Milwaukee, Wis./Martin Luther), Dilli Kittner (Milwaukee, Wis./Torah Academy), and Cate Mitchell (Mazomanie, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) which held the back line strong for much of the game.
Kittner and Antonio each recorded a defensive save after rebounded Viking shots.
Five different Vikings scored as Lawrence (7-4-1) outshot MMU 26-3 and put 15 shots on goal.
Offensively, Mount Mary (0-8) put forth three total shots—two coming off the foot of sophomore Nyasia Hardy (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider) with Mitchell adding one on a free kick deep in Lawrence's third.
The Blue Angels have a busy weekend trip to Michigan ahead, traveling to Grace Christian University Saturday and Great Lakes Christian College Sunday. The Blue Angels and Tigers will kick off the weekend at 1 p.m. CT Saturday.
