Robertson’s 25 Points Leads the Way as Blue Angels Win a Tight Battle At Emmaus
Dubuque, Iowa. -- The Mount Mary University Blue Angels hit the road for their third away contest this week. They travelled to take on the Emmaus University Eagles. The game came down to the final seconds, but the Blue Angels were able to hang on and capture another road victory, 71-68.

- Mikkalla Robertson (Milwaukee, Wis.) went an impressive 12-15 from the field to score a team-high 25 points.
- Vanessa Diaz (Kissimmee, Fla.) dished the ball for seven assists.
- Norriah Broomfield (Milwaukee, Wis.) grabbed her second double-double of the week with ten points and ten rebounds. She also contributed two blocks.
The game remained scoreless for the first two minutes, besides an Eagle free throw, until Robertson was able to score on the left block, 2-1. Two minutes later, Robertson scored another field goal for the Blue Angels, 4-1, halfway through the first quarter. Broomfield added a pair of free throws after she drew contact down low. Emmaus connected on their first basket, 6-4. The Eagles regained the lead with an old-fashioned three-pointer, 7-6 with four minutes remaining. Robertson added in her sixth point of the quarter, 9-8, in favor of the Eagles. Robertson again finished strong under the basket, taking the lead, 10-9. Deriya Wilson (Milwaukee, Wis.) drove into the paint and finished on the left to bring the game to its first timeout, 12-9 with 2:20 remaining. The Eagles tied the game at 12 from an and-one bucket. Broomfield bounced right back and completed a three-point play of her own, 15-12. Robertson finished another layup with ease to extend the lead to 17-12. Rionne Turner (Milwaukee, Wis.) went coast-to-coast to end the quarter 19-14.
Diaz scored first for the Blue Angels to start the second quarter, 21-14. Wilson hit a deep two-pointer in the corner, 23-15. The Eagles scored off a steal, 23-17. Robertson was found down low and went up to score two, 25-17. The Eagles converted two free throws to try to close the gap, 25-19. Wilson chipped in two free throws halfway through the quarter, 27-21. Diaz gets a steal and pushes ahead to Ta'Miah Jamison (Rock Island, Ill.) for a bucket, 29-21. Diaz's excellent court vision found Robinson on the top of the key for a three-point bucket, 32-21. Camille Powell (Snellville, Ga.) joined in on the scoring run 34-21. The Eagles came down and scored a three-pointer, bringing the gap to 10, 34-24. Broomfield shut down their momentum with a quick bucket, 36-24. Robertson continued her hot streak and scored a drop-step move layup, 38-24. Wilson scored her second deep two of the game, 40-27. The quarter ended with the Blue Angels leading, 41-32.
Coming out of the half, Robertson and the Blue Angels scored first, 43-32. Robertson secured an offensive rebound and put-back to force a timeout, 45-36. Broomfield found a lane to drive all the way to the basket, 47-38. Diaz finished a floater to extend the MMU lead to nine, 49-40. The Eagles went on a scoring run to cut the lead to 5, but Wilson got a quick bucket to slow down the momentum, 51-44. The Eagles got a steal and a bucket due to their full-court pressure, 51-46. Robertson gets herself another bucket after taking her time in the post, 53-47. Sanai Ballard (Highland, Ind.) extends the Blue Angels' lead with a euro-step layup, 55-49. The quarter concluded with the Blue Angels hanging onto a five-point lead, 55-50.
Powell gets things started in the fourth quarter, 57-50. Robertson continued to penetrate the Eagle defense with a nice move under the hoop, 59-51. Powell knocks down a three-pointer to extend the lead to 11. Despite the pressure from the Eagles, Diaz found Robertson under the basket to continue the Blue Angel momentum, 64-53. The Eagles knocked down a deep three to stop the MMU run, 64-56. Powell scored her seventh point in the fourth quarter from a mid-range jumper with four minutes remaining, 66-57. The Eagles' defensive pressure comes up with a steal and a fast-break bucket, 66-61. Following that bucket, they added to their run, bringing the game within three points under three minutes to play, 66-63. Diaz hit a huge bucket behind the arc to slow the Eagles' energy, 69-63. With 2:21 left to play and the Blue Angels leading 69-65, they took a timeout to talk things over. The Eagles knocked in two free throws to bring the game within two points with 52 seconds remaining, 69-67. The Eagles had numerous chances to tie the game under 13 seconds, but could not convert. Final free throws from Diaz and Avery Gorn (Waterford, Wis.) capped off the victory in the final seconds, 71-68.
The Blue Angels basketball team will resume conference action on Wednesday, November 19th, at 5:30 p.m. The Blue Angels will take on the Jaguars of Governors State in University Park, Illinois.
