Tough Early Season Test Ahead For Blue Angels
Blue Angels freshmen getting the offense going early in the season.
The Blue Angels basketball team is heading to Fond du Lac, Wis. to face off against the Marian University Sabres (1-0). Mount Mary University has started the season at 0-3, but are looking to turn things around Saturday Nov. 22nd at 2:00 pm.
After Thursday's loss for the Blue Angels, it will be a quick turnaround for the squad as they go up against the Sabres. The match-up pits two very youthful teams against one another. The Blue Angels are jam packed with underclassmen, making up over 90 percent of their roster, while the Sabres have a similar compliment with 11 of 14 roster spots taken up by underclassmen.
Offensively, the Blue Angels have been fueled by two new comers. Chrisandra Freeman (Fr./Cedar Rapids, Iowa) leads the team with a 10.7 points per game clip, also leads the team with 1.7 assists per game. Along with Freeman, Jasmine Meyer (Fr./Lansing, Kan.) has been fuel the team with 9 ppg and leads her team with 6.7 rebounds per game.
While the Blue Angels have been attacking the hoop more often, and cutting down on turnovers from the beginning of the year, they have yet to find their groove. There have been multiple stints of play where the Blue Angels outplay, out shoot, or out defend the opposition, but with such a young team, they have not found a way to put it together for the full 40 minutes.
The Sabres are led offensively Amelia Mirsberger (Sr./New Holstein, Wis.), in the one game this season Mirsberger had 18 points and was two of four from behind the three point line. Mirsberger also took care of the inside game as well, pulling down eight boards for her team.
After the contest in Fond du Lac, Wis. the Blue Angels will get ready for their second home contest of the year. This time MMU is set to host Northland College on Tuesday Nov. 25th at 6:00 pm in the Bloechl Center.
