Nance homers again in close series finale at Viterbo
La Crosse, WI- The MMU softball team took on Viterbo in La Crosse on Wednesday to finish off a three-game series. The trend of late for the Blue Angels has been one of steady improvement, that continued Wednesday but MMU fell to the V-Hawks in a most competitive game by a score of 9-6.
A two out rally in the 1st inning put Viterbo ahead by a 4-0 margin. The Blue Angel team continued to show their toughness Wednesday, as they have throughout the late part of this season, as they chipped away gradually at the Viterbo lead over the next few innings and would come back valiantly all day.
Kylie Ann Kluck and Alex Eads provided run scoring hits, then in the top of the 5th, Amanda Nance would once again strike a huge blow. She knocked her third home run in two days and 5th of the season. The long ball brought MMU within one at 4-3.
Then in the 5th, the Blue Angels would rally to tie the game, Nirella Coelho drove in Ava Flannery as MMU came all the way back to deadlock the contest.
The tie didn't last for an extended period; however, Viterbo struck in the 5th for 5 runs to take a 9-4 lead.
Mount Mary would rally again in the 6th, Kylie Ann Kluck and Anna Corpas Salcedo had run scoring hits to bring the Blue Angels within three at 9-6.
The Blue Angels would not claw any closer on the day and fell by the 9-6 deficit. Taylor Hames reached in the 7th inning, her second hit of the day, but that was all for MMU in the final frame.
Once again, the Blue Angels played Viterbo with a high level of competitiveness and fell just short.
