Glendale, WI- Coming off three straight games in Illinois, and a week in which they have played nearly every day, the Mount Mary softball team finished the week by hosting St. Xavier in a home doubleheader on Saturday.
The Cougars came into the games undefeated in CCAC play, and they lived up to that mark, winning both games by scores of 21-3 and 19-0.
In game one, St. Xavier staged a first inning rally and created separation early. They would claim an 8-0 lead before Mt. Mary came to the plate.
The Cougars would add another eight runs in the second to establish a 16-0 lead. Taylor Hames provided a defensive highlight with a great diving catch in inning number 2.
Ayja Cushman provided a baserunner for MMU with a walk in the 3rd inning.
The Blue Angels would then manufacture a run in the 4th, Amanda Nance would double following a Lily Day walk, Kylie Ann Kluck then walked and Ava Flannery came through with an rbi single.
Kylie Ann Kluck provided the highlight of game one with a two run double in the 5th inning. That would end the offense in game one for MMU as they fell by a final score of 21-3.
As game two began it seemed much like the first inning of game one, St. Xavier shot out to 7-0 lead.
The Blue Angels held St. Xavier scoreless in the top of the second due to an impressive running catch by Nirella Coelho.
The Cougars scored six in the top of the 3rd, despite another great catch from Hames. At the end of the third inning, St. Xavier led 13-0.
Amanda Nance stayed hot at the plate as she knocked a double in the bottom of the 4th.
