Perry Clark Resigns as Head Softball Coach
Milwaukee, WI- The Mount Mary University Athletic Department has announced that head softball coach and assistant director of athletics Perry Clark has resigned from his role. Clark will become the head softball coach at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona.
Clark has been the leader of the MMU softball program for the past seven seasons, he has also served in various other key capacities within the athletic department, including assistant athletic director for facilities and head golf coach.
Perry Clark elaborated on the decision, "I would like to personally thank Mount Mary, my team of student athletes and the faculty, support resources and administration for the seven years that you have been my family. It is with a heavy heart that I announce my resignation to pursue my last and final dream as a Softball Coach. That dream will take me to Arizona, where I have always planned to retire, and now I can continue to Coach and be there at the same time. I am so proud of all of my players, who are true Scholars and Athletes at the same time. I will always remember the road trips to Florida, the competition in Wisconsin that we have played over these years, and wish every one of my players success in life and their careers beyond Softball."
The Blue Angel softball program reached unprecedented levels of success under Clark's leadership.
The 2022 season was a record setting campaign for the Mount Mary program. The 14 wins by the Blue Angels equaled an all time program record, and the team set a new record for winning percentage in a single season. The 2023 season was a 10 win campaign for the Blue Angels, marking the two seasons as the winningest two year span in the history of Mount Mary Softball. The Blue Angels once again won 10 games during the 2024 season, setting the last three years of MMU softball as the all-time most successful stretch ever for the program.
Pitcher Brianna Lupa and hitting standout Aislinn Strusz rewrote the Mount Mary softball record books during Clark's time at Mount Mary, both now lead Blue Angel softball in over five all time statistical categories.
Clark Continued, "Throughout my time at Mount Mary, we have collectively gone through a once in a lifetime event with COVID, and all the challenges it presented, and we were still as successful as we could be as a team together, I will always remember all of our players and will always have a Blue Angel on my shoulder. "
Director of Athletics Natalie Balleto commented, "I thank Perry for all he has done for MMU and especially for the Softball program over his 8 years here. He has been a great asset for all our student-athletes over these years and instrumental in everything that is Blue Angels Athletics. We wish him well at his next stop."
