Ryan Losinki Named First Head Flag Football Coach
Milwaukee, WI- The Mount Mary University Athletic Department has named Ryan Losinksi as the first Head Flag Football Coach in program history. Losinski brings a wealth of experience in coaching and higher education which makes him the perfect fit to build the new program at Mount Mary.
Director of Athletics Natalie Balleto had this to say regarding the appointment of Losinksi, "We are excited to announce the hiring of Ryan Losinski as our inaugural Head Flag Football Coach. He brings his own playing experience to the table and is dedicated to the development of the whole person. I know he is anxious to get started and help grow the sport of Flag Football."
A graduate and standout athlete from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, Losinski has nearly twenty years of experience in the field of coaching and leadership. His experience includes but is not limited to stints at nearby Wauwatosa East High School and Bryant and Stratton College. Coach Lisinski brings a great deal of enthusiasm to building the Blue Angel Flag Football program, "I'm incredibly excited to accept the Head Coaching position for the Flag Football program at Mount Mary University. This is a unique opportunity to build something from the ground up and be part of one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, especially with women's flag football being included in the 2028 Summer Olympics."
Losinski values the all-around student athlete experience offered at Mount Mary and also sees the importance of the University's recent move to the NAIA, "As a member of the NAIA, we're proud to offer athletic scholarships, while providing student-athletes the chance to compete at a high level and succeed academically. I'm looking forward to developing leaders, building a strong culture, and creating a program that our athletes and community can be proud of."
Flag football is one of the fastest-growing sports in the nation, experiencing rapid expansion at youth, high school, and collegiate levels. The sport has gained significant momentum in recent years, with increased national visibility and growing opportunities for female student-athletes. Mount Mary's decision to add flag football reflects the University's commitment to providing innovative athletic opportunities and expanding access to competitive collegiate sports. Women's Flag Football has been an emerging sport in the NAIA since 2021. The NAIA's National Administrative Council (NAC) Executive Committee has approved Women's Flag Football as an Invitational sport beginning in the 2025-2026 season. There are currently 35 teams competing in Flag this spring of 2026 in the NAIA.
The Blue Angels will compete during the Spring season beginning in 2027, joining a growing number of NAIA programs sponsoring women's flag football. The addition aligns with the NAIA's continued investment in emerging sports and its mission to foster participation, competition, and leadership opportunities for women in athletics.
