Mount Mary Athletics Hosts Special Olympics Field Day
Milwaukee, WI- On Sunday, the Mount Mary Athletic Department and Association of Student Athletes welcomed the Special Olympics of Southeastern Wisconsin for a very special field day.
The Blue Angel student athletes assisted the Special Olympics athletes through 6 different field events to learn and test their skills. The events included Volleyball, Basketball, Frisbee, Tee ball, Cornhole and Soccer.
Mount Mary assistant athletic director Kaleigh Roop commented on the rewarding day, "The Association of Student-Athletes (ASA) had a fantastic time hosting our Field Day for Special Olympics Wisconsin, and the campus was filled with smiles and laughs from start to finish.
This field day, MMU's flag football event hosted in the fall, and the Polar Plunge are just a few examples of the collaboration the Mount Mary Athletic Department has with Special Olympics.
The relationship is part of the commitment by Mount Mary Athletics to the NAIA Champions of Character program. The mission of the program is to provide training to instill the values that build character, so students, coaches and parents know, do, and value the right thing on and off the field. The program helps participants find balance by keeping the five core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership – at the heart of the athletics experience.
